​As Sheriff, my mission is to continue to strengthen public safety, community trust, and operational excellence. These initiatives reflect my ongoing commitment to service and my vision for a safer, more connected Pitt County.

Strengthening Community Policing

• Focusing on community outreach programs/events to foster the relationships between our office and citizens.

• Increasing visibility and accessibility of deputies in our neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces.

• Prioritizing collaborative events/programs that allow citizens to engage directly with their Sheriff and deputies.

When deputies and community members know one another, trust grows and so does safety.

 

Investing in Training, Professional Growth, and Excellence.

• Providing ongoing and advanced training opportunities for both sworn and civilian staff.

• Promoting leadership development and rewarding strong performance through opportunities for advancement.

• Maintaining the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office as one of the most respected law enforcement agencies in North Carolina.

Reducing Crime Through Strategy and Innovation

• Using data-driven approaches to identify crime trends and to allocate resources effectively.

• Continuing to prioritize key issues such as opioid abuse, human trafficking, and domestic violence.

• Strengthening investigative tools, technology, and partnerships to prevent and to solve crime more efficiently.

Success with strategy and innovation comes from experience and the ability to evolve as a visionary as times and trends develop.​

 

Improving Access to Information and Communication

• Improving the timely and accurate release of information to our citizens and the media.

• Expanding communication channels to make crime prevention resources and safety alerts more accessible.

• Enhancing staff directories and contact pathways to ensure every citizen can most easily reach the services they need.

A safer community is an informed community. 

 

Maximizing Resources and Partnerships

• Partnering with local, state, and federal agencies and local community organizations to strengthen coordinated crime-prevention efforts.

• Seeking and winning grant funding to increase staffing, equipment, and program capacity, reducing costs to taxpayers.

• Working productively with other communication centers, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS, emergency management, and other first responders and community leaders to provide the best protection and service possible no matter what situations we may face.

Focusing on collaboration ensures efficiency and saves lives. Work smart and work together.

 

Continuing the Work

Public safety isn’t a finish line, it’s an ongoing commitment. As Pitt County continues to grow, so must the strategies, partnerships, and programs needed to protect it.  Protecting and investing in our communities has been and will always be my priority.
