As Sheriff, my responsibility is to ensure that the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office delivers trusted, professional, and community-centered law enforcement. My decisions and leadership are guided by three core priorities: Integrity, Commitment, and Community.

INTEGRITY - COMMUNITY - COMMITMENT
Integrity

Integrity is the foundation of public trust and it must be visible in every policy, partnership, and interaction.

My ongoing priorities include:

  • Ensuring transparent hiring, promotion, and training processes that are grounded in fairness, accountability, and responsible budgeting.

  • Strengthening public safety through innovative and efficient practices.

  • Developing and implementing new policies for best practices as needed while maintaining compliance with state and national law enforcement standards.

Operating with integrity means doing what is right consistently, openly, and with the best interest of the people we serve.

Commitment
A safe community begins with skilled, dedicated professionals who are fully supported in the work they do.

My commitment includes:

  • Recruiting, developing, retaining, and promoting highly qualified deputies, officers, and staff who reflect professionalism, compassion, and readiness to serve.

  • Pursuing grants and outside funding sources to enhance services and reduce financial burdens on taxpayers.

  • Prioritizing staffing, technology, and resources to meet the evolving needs of Pitt County.

  • Collaborating with community partners to share information, prevent crime, and respond to neighborhood concerns.

We are stronger when we work together, and commitment ensures long-term progress.

Community

The residents of Pitt County are at the center of everything we do.

To strengthen public trust and engagement, we will continue to:

  • Be accessible, responsive, and accountable to the community we serve.

  • Build relationships with neighborhoods, businesses, churches, and schools to promote shared safety.

  • Provide timely communication on emerging trends, safety concerns, and prevention strategies.

  • Support existing community programs such as our senior well-being checks, juvenile initiatives, volunteer involvement, and chaplain support.

Law enforcement succeeds when the community is informed, involved, and confident in their Sheriff’s Office.

DEPUTIES & DETENTION OFFICERS

The strength of public safety rests on the professionalism of those who wear the badge.

We remain focused on:

  • Community policing strategies that build trust and engagement, especially within schools and youth programs.

  • Continuing the use of body-worn cameras to protect both deputies and the public.

  • Then, expanding the body-worn camera program for use by detention officers in the jail to better protect the officers and the inmates.

  • Recognizing and promoting officers based on skill, dedication, and proven performance.

  • Recruiting a workforce that reflects the diversity and values of Pitt County.

The Pitt County Detention Center continues to be recognized for safety, professionalism, and strong operational standards.

We remain committed to:

  • Maintaining a safe and secure environment for detention officers, inmates, and the public.

  • Supporting rigorous training for staff.

  • Ensuring the safety of individuals awaiting trial, serving short-term sentences, or held under federal guidelines.

  • Using grant funding and other alternative funding solutions to further develop and maintain an array of programs to reduce recidivism and stop the revolving door of crime and jail, saving tax dollars and making our communities stronger and safer than ever before.

Moving Forward, Together

With experience, strong leadership, and a clear vision, we will continue building your Sheriff’s Office rooted in trust, service, and excellence. Together, we can ensure Pitt County remains a safe and thriving place to live, work, and call home.
